Last night I was at Clever Cycles getting Downtown Cupcake Brown her free 30 day tuneup, and I spied another Big Dummy sitting around waiting for … I knew not what. When I asked whose it was, Mike, Colin and Tyler told me it was going to a woman in North Carolina. Then Todd popped his head in and said, You sold that bike! She reads xtrasue and wants one because you love yours so much!
Naturally, I thought the best thing to do would be to take pictures of it and post them here. I am completely thrilled to know that my Big Dummy/Xtracycle love has spread to foreign countries! And I say that with love because I lived in NC for 9 and a half years (2.5 in Greensboro and 7 in Boone) and I adore North Carolina. Ahhhhh, Boone. I’d just as soon be in Boone. Ahhhhh, Boone.
So, dear NC reader, whoever you are, send me a comment! Who are you? Where do you live? Send me a picture of you and your new baby!

OH MY GOSH!!!!
It is so completely-beyond-words-AWESOME to hop over to see what might be new on your blog this afternoon, (you know, to take my mind off of waiting for my BD and trying very hard not to make hourly annoying phone calls to Clever Cycles to ask “what is my bike doing right now?”) only to see PICTURES OF MY VERY OWN BIKE right there at the top of your page!!!!! WOOO HOOOOO! That was ultra-cool of you to do that — thank you! What a nice surprise!
We’re in Kannapolis, just a little north of Charlotte. My hubby and I have been to Portland, once, 10 years ago, and we loved it. (Ferns in trees! Amazing!) We didn’t have bikes with us for the short trip, but we walked everywhere.
Yep, I read everything I could find about Xtracycles, and your site was helpful with the closeup pictures of the BD, and descriptions of how the tires rode at what psi, how you liked the smooth disc brakes, etc. I learned a lot from looking over your shoulder! Interestingly, you linked to a couple of other sites that I’d also started to mine, like Vik’s, rootsradicals, bikeforum. Oh yeah - I was really impressed by your ability to ride the bike with your left hand and left foot, and steer your two dogs (weighing what, now?) with your right hand and right foot. Is that really true??
Getting late here on the east coast - email me back and we’ll talk more, OK? Thanks again for doing such a wonderful, generous thing. You rock!

Thanks, Garry! So how do you like your Jake the Xnake? Are those 700c wheels? Looks like you have a house, which is something I don’t have, so don’t be too jealous.

*lol*
The jake is great..need to get a stiffer rear wheel though it can be a bit flexy..but with the knobbly tyres it goes anywhere

So, a second BD is soon to be in the Carolinas. Tyler is putting everything together for my 22″ frame. Cannot wait! - putting on a Pea Pod for my daughter, and figuring out the rest for my 5 year old son and maybe even my wife - found a pretty cool very small motorcycle seat - but want to see how my son reacts first.
We are in the Charlotte area too, but South of Robin in a place called Meyers Park. The morning school routes should be pretty easy to drop both in the morning. We moved from the Seattle area last year, and I never thought I would miss rainy weather - but I do.
I am being tortured a little longer, because I splurged and am having the frame powdercoated black before it is built. Tyler took it out last Friday and we should see it back in the shop in about 10 days.
Thanks for your enthusiasm Sue, Tyler referred me to your site and I have to admit it held my attention. I struggled with doing an extracycle conversion and then just took the leap of faith based on everything I’ve seen and read about the BD.
Can’t wait to cruise…..Stewart

That’s great, Stewart! You and Robin should go for a ride together.
Thanks for your comments about my blog - glad you like it, and you’re inspiring me to update it more often.
I’m still completely in love with Downtown Cupcake Brown, and I’d highly recommend a Big Dummy to anyone.
I think I heard about your build - are you getting a Rolhoff?

Getting the Shimano Alphine 8 speed. Geared so that it should handle the rolling hills of Charlotte pretty well. I struggled with the price jump to a BD, and not sure I could stay married if I tacked on the price of a Rolhoff….
Saw the first pictures of the build a day ago, and can’t wait to see the final. Should be shipping it next week!
