Riding in the snow
Riding in the snow
We shall come rejoicing
Riding in the snow!

Ah, snow glorious snow. It’s snowing today! In Portland! And I got to ride to work AND to Boot Camp in it! I’m so happy! Here’s a shot of my bike unceremoniously parked by the dumpster outside One With Heart waiting patiently for me to ride it to work. The iPhone couldn’t quite capture the snow, but trust me, it’s there.
And here’s another shot of the view from ‘my’ window at work. Again, hard to see the snow, I know, but it’s very exciting in person. If you live here, you know what I mean. Unless you’re one of those people. You know, the big whiny babies who complain about the weather, and especially about the snow. Waaah! Get off yer ass and ride yer damn bike - you’ll be warmer that way.

hahaha, you made up a song! y’know what you need? A UKULELE!
i saw it was snowing this morning as i was getting ready to ride to work, got all jazzed and hurried out the door so as not to miss it. all the riding i do and somehow i’ve never ridden in snowfall… i reasoned that snow, being light and airy and fluffy like a newborn chick, eliminated the need for rain pants, so off i went and it was fun.
for about two blocks. how come no one mentions about riding in the snow that it gets in your eyes? or that it’s just rain that takes a second to melt when it hits the jeans that your brilliant self reasoned would be sufficient coverage?
bah.

I already HAVE a ukulele!
I was all excited too - but I, thanks to my illustrious past as a ski instructor, knew it would be wet. So I wore my fleece pants, which kept me plenty warm. I also wore my yellow-lens sunglasses, like I do every day these days. They got a bit froggy at stop lights, but not too bad, and they did keep my eyes dry.
Do they have any logic classes you could take over there at Reed? ha ha ha ha ha! I crack myself up!

No, what you need is a tiny, tiny ukulele, with a HUGE extension that lets it haul lots of cargo.
I wore my leather chaps and ten gallon hat to ride today, which I knew from my illustrious past as a cattle rustler would… oh, I just ran out of steam.

Hey, I think I saw you - were you riding a tiny ukulele and hauling a large bull?

I AM NOT A BULL!
TAKE IT BACK!

Nope, wasn’t you…

Hey, did you guys get to ride home in the hail storm? I did!

We did an Xtracycle run over to CityBikes in a hailstrom today. Jeff kept squealing gleefully as he pedaled, “IT’S CHRISTMAS! SANTA’S COMING! YAAAAY! SANTA! SECOND CHRISTMAS!”
I was less enthusiastic about getting pelted with little ice balls and ducked my head down as far as I could.
Now Jeff wants me to play the ukulele with him and he’s getting really mad and we don’t want to anger Jeff when it comes to the uke…
P.S. we might have converted another guy to an Xtracycle today!
